Margaret YUILL is my direct line. She married Alexander Porteous and migrated to Australia in 1855.

Janette YULE, Indiana

My g-g-grandmother was Janette Yule born 1820. She married Thomas Ferguson. I have found in the Indiana Census for 1850 a Robert and Easton YULE living next door to her and believe them to be her parents. All three were born in Scotland. Do you have information on this family?

Nancyb@hurricane.net

We know that John YULE and Ann Calder immigrated from Aberdeenshire to Iowa. They stopped in Ohio for a while as their son John YULE who married Janet THOMPSON had children 1839-1846 in Ohio on their way to Iowa. I do not find a connection to a Robert YULE. Does any have information?

Alexander George YUILLE, Australia

Alex George YUILLE was born 22/12/1869, Inglewood, Victoria and died 1916, Newport, Victoria. He married Mary Ellen Truscott who was born. 1867 Eaglehawk, Victoria.

Alex George was adopted by John Green of Bridgewater Victoria 17/6/1874

Cello_8@hotmail.com

Alexander George YUILLE was the son of Robert YUILLE and Ella LITTLEJOHN. Robert was born 2 September 1820, Glasgow, Lanark, the son of Robert YUILLE and Ann CROSS. YUILLE. This family goes back to John, James and Nicol YULE of Edinburgh and East Lothian in 1610. Ella LITTLEJOHN died 8 August 1871. She had a daughter Margaret born1871 and who died1872. This could have been the reason why Alexander was adopted by John Green.

Elizabeth YUILLE, Australia

My 3rd great Grandmother was Elizabeth YUILLE who was born about 1822 Glasgow, Scotland. She married Henry MCGROTTY about 1839 in Glasgow and as far as I know had one child in Glasgow before coming to Australia. After arriving in Australia she had 2 children in New South Wales and then 5 more in Victoria.

Elizabeth died 1904 Victoria, Australia and Henry MACGROTTY died 1891, Australia.

Sheepy@rabbit.com.au

On the Australian records, for McGROTTY is a Sarah born 1849 in Sydney NSW; Betsy born 1852; Samuel born 1855 Victoria; Samuel Underwood born 1856, Victoria; and a Henry who is registered as having died aged 1 in 1855 while at sea. There is another Henry born 1861 Hotham, Melbourne and died 1896 Cheltenham.

Can you check further on Sarah? That may be a clue as to where they were married since they are not on the Scottish indexes for marriages.

Arthur Dingwall YULE

Any advice on how to track down an Arthur Dingwall YULE who was born in Dundee, Scotland around 1865? He eventually came to the US and traveled with a vaudeville act.

Family sources say he was born in 1861; on his death certificate dated 1932 he was 67 years old. His middle name was Dinwall. We have an old photo of him in costume with an unknown woman named Ollie Smith. On the stage he took the name Fordyce.

When he fathered two children with a woman named Mabel Davis. The children were given the last name of Fordyce. We recently found out that Arthur Dingwall Yule died and was buried in Toronto in January 1932. His death certificate lists his occupation as a wood carver. The burial was paid and arranged for by a

Mrs. Nora McLeod. We do not know who she was.

Julietx@aol.com

Check the Fordyce name on the I.G.I. There are a number of times when the name Arthur Dingwall Fordyce shows up in the Aberdeenshire records.

Arthur is not a common name in Scotland. Going by the civil registration lists there are two possible choices, unless he changed his name somewhat.

Arthur born 15 March 1864, Glasgow son of John YULE and Helen STIRLING

Arthur born 9 February 1865 Glasgow son of William YULE and Margaret H. KYLE
