RESEARCH:
Often we find family histories already completed, some have been submitted to the IGI (International Genealogy Index), ancestral trees in books or now many show up on the internet. Do we really know how accurate the research was on these family trees. Here is a family history recorded in 1868, with a number of inaccurate assumptions. Mr. Findlayson did not have microfiche, microfilm and the internet to assist him in his research, all of which have made modern day research so much easier but still only as accurate as that of the researcher.
YULE FAMILY of KINCARDINESSHIRE
This family tree was compiled in 1868 by James FINDLAYSON, genealogist and heraldist of Manchester, England, for George YULE, of Manchester and India. Considering when it was completed Mr. Findlayson compiled an interesting family tree.
Simon de Yle: a feudal servitor of the Cumins, Earl of Menteith - progenitor of the Stirlingshire families of Zuile and Yuill. In AD 1358 Edward III granted him safe conduct.
This overlooks the many areas where the surname can be found throughout Northern Europe before 1358. Such as in the domesday Book of 1068 is Youl in Derbyshire, England.
John de Yle: a feudal servitor to the Cummins, Earl of Buchan, mar. Margaretta
Sons John Yle: Progenitor of the Lothian Yule families
Andrew Yule AD 1364, cleric liberosis vol I p 430
Robert Yule d. 1364, merchant burgess of Aberdeen
It would appear from various records that the Lothian Family was well established before the Stirlingshire Yules. The Lothian Yules do not seem to have had any relationship with the Aberdeenshire Yules.
Son of Robert: John Yole merchant burgess of Aberdeen 1364-1400 (Rot. Scot. 38,39,40 EdII)
Son of John; John Yule rector of Culter Cumin 1420 (later Peterculter)
Duncan Yule public notary and Aberdeen burgess 1470
Walter, 1439 Chancellor of Caithness; 1450 Canon of Brechin;
1465 Canon Aberdeen; 1474 Presbytery of Old Deer
There is almost a one hundred years gap in this family line.

David, Merchant of St. Andrews and Edinburgh; Colzor and Coal Shipper
