ANGUS MARRIAGE:



Fashionable marriage: At the George Hotel, Arbroath, last night, Miss Mary Ann Stephen, eldest daughter of Mrs. Spence of the George Hotel, was married by the Rev. Thomas Stark Anderson to Mr. C. B. Yule, merchant, Aberdeen. The company numbered about 50. Among those present being:- Captain Yule, Harbourmaster, Dundee, and Mrs. Yule; Mr. and Mrs. Minto, Dundee; Mr. And Mrs. Cay; Mr. And Mrs. Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. Gray, Mr. Mutch, Mr. Scorgie, Mr. Couttes, Mrs. Yule, Aberdeen; Mrs. Captain Spence; Miss Mackenzie, Garmouth; Mr. Badennoch, Edinburgh; Mr. And Mrs. Stewart, Market Place, Arbroath; Mr. And Mrs. Bruce, Commerce Street, Arbroath; and Mr. Ferrier, High Street, Arbroath. The happy pair left Arbroath with the 8 o'clock train. The remainder of the company spending a pleasant evening with dancing and singing.

ABERDEEN MARRIAGES:



1755 St. Macher, Aberdeen: James YULE, Bleacher at Gordon's Mills and Jean Crombie in Fraserfield were contracted in order to marriage and having consigned Pledges their Purpose of marriage was orderly proclaimed and they were married upon the first day of July by Mr. Patrick Duff.



1760 St. Macher, Aberdeen: Charles YULE in Loanhead produced a certificate of his purpose of marriage with Jean BORWN in the parish of Banchory-Devenick signed by James Hoff ( sess. Clerk. Their purpose of marriage was order by proclaimed and they were married upon the _ day of February by Mr. James Nicolson at Banchory-Devenick.



1772 St. Macher, Aberdeen: James YULE in the parish of Banchory-Devenick and Marjory KEITH in this parish signified their purpose of marriage by James KEITH, elder and consigned pledges. Whereupon being orderly proclaimed, they were married upon the tenth of November by Mr. Thos. Forbes, Minister in Aberdeen.

Mr. YULE -( probably Henry-) is mentioned as the first person to set up a weather station to measure the rainfall at Cherrapunji, in the Hill country northeast of Calcutta, India in 1841.

QUERIES:



John YUILLE married Ann Maitland near Glasgow about 1856-7? John Yuill was a boilermaker by trade. Does anyone have more information for Carol Buchanan, Parkdale, Victoria Australia.



James YULE married Ann Crawford 12 May 1812, Cannongate, Edinburgh. Both of that parish. Unable to find more information. Does anyone have all their children? For Gwen Griffiths, Murrumba Downs, Queensland, Australia..





OBITUARY:



Winifred Anna YUILL Whitley BA, LL.B. November 14, 1907 - November 8, 1997

Winnifred Whitley was the daughter of Winifred and D. Will Yuill of Melita, Manitoba and granddaughter of the Rev. J. M. Wellwood who came from Manitoba to Minnedosa in 1880.



She was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1934, and was one of the first female lawyers in Manitoba. After practicing in Cypress River and Newdale, she joined her father and practiced with Yuill and Yuill until 1974.



She was preceded by her parents in 1970 and her sister Wilhelmine Kilgour in 1996. Her beloved husband, Chester Whitley, died in 1956. She was also much loved by her nieces, Alison Kilgour of Hay River, N.W.T. and Jo Weston of Ottawa and by Jay Weston and Mark, Amy and Paul Weston.

Winifred was a lifelong member of the Melita Presbyterian Church of which she became the first female elder in 1970. She was also a member of Rebekah and Eastern Star Lodges, the Liberal Party, the Antler River Historical Society, and the Melita Horticultural Society.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12 in Melita Presbyterian Church.
