THANKS:
We appreciate the help of Brian GILCHRIST, a genealogist in Toronto, who sent information regarding James YUILL, merchant of Boston. He is mentioned in a court case 10 August 1763 as being the son of Claud YUIL of Strathhaven, Lanarkshire. (Scottish American Court Records 1733-1783 by David Dobson, page 88.cs16.1.115). This gives us three sources mentioning James as the son of Claud YUIL, which would confirm that the YULE family of Colchester, Nova Scotia is connected to the YULES of Strathhaven and Glassford in the Clydsdale area of Lanarkshire.
Also mentioned in the book are two other YULES.
Andrew Yule, tailor of Kingston, Jamaica in a case 9 July 1782 (cs17.1.1).
John YUILL of Glasgow then in Boston, son of Alexander YUILL, merchant in Glasgow, 15 Feb. 1781 (cs16.1.183).
(we will obtain copies of these sources for further information).

A fire destroyed his bakery in 1839 and he established another bakery on Government Street. It remained in the family until 1925.
The bread in those days was similar to a long French bread.

INDIANA YULE: "My son owes much to a man he never met"
In a recent issue of the Reader's Digest, was an excerpt from the book I Almost Missed The Sunset by Bill Gaither (Thomas Nelson Publ.). He tells the story of how he came to buy his property. He had found some land, in Alexandria, Indiana, he was interested in buying. It belonged to a 92 year old banker named Mr. Yule who was not interested in selling any part of his land. Bill Gaither went to see Mr. Yule a number of times and finally Mr. Yule asked if he was any relation to Gover Gaither. When Bill said yes, that he had been his grandfather. Mr. Yule told him, that Grover Gaither was the best worker he had ever had on his farm and to come back and he would give him a price on the 15 acres. Later Mr. Yule told Bill he would sell the land for $3,800. The land was worth three times that amount.

NOTE: I have a beautiful story (6 pages) written by Gertrude S. MULLINGS, Bogulusa, Louisiana. The tale is told by a silver spoon which had belonged to Agnes ALSTON (born 1730) and with the initials "AA" engraved on the handle.
Agnes married William BURNS. It is their daughter, Margaret BURNS, who married John YUILLE in 1779. If you would like a copy of the story, please write to me.
